Girl Scouts Emergency Preparedness Patch Program

By providing guidance to neighbors on how to get prepared for emergencies, Girl Scouts can earn a special patch. Beginning in 2006, the County of San Diego’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) invited Girl Scouts to participate in an important community service by distributing a copy of the Family Disaster Plan and Personal Survival Guide to family, friends, and neighbors. 

Numerous troops have enthusiastically responded to the program and thousands of Family Disaster Plans have been distributed in San Diego County as a result. Due to the positive response that the program received, OES and Girl Scouts have continued Girl Scouts Emergency Preparedness Patch Program. 

Emergency Preparedness Patch Program

OES will provide Girl Scout leaders with a free Emergency Preparedness Patch for each girl who delivers a Family Disaster plan and Personal Survival Guide to at least 25 households. For each Family Disaster Plan delivered, the girl will track the ZIP CODE of the household and the DATE the household received the Family Disaster plan.  Please use the Individual Data Form and mail the completed form(s) to OES along with the Patches Request Form.

Getting Family Disaster Plans

The Family Disaster Plans are available in English and Spanish, and can be requested from OES by emailing ReadySD@sdcounty.ca.gov or calling (858) 565-3490.

Requesting Emergency Preparedness Patches

After the girls distribute the 25 Family Disaster Plans, please complete the Patches Request Form and mail the form along with all completed Individual Data Form(s) to:
