The Great California ShakeOut - 10:17 AM on 10/17/2013

Are you ready to Shake Out? The “World’s largest earthquake drill” is planned for 10:17 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 (10/17). Join us and be counted. A one minute Drop, Cover, and Hold On earthquake drill may one day minimize injuries or save lives.

If you haven’t registered yet, please go to www.ShakeOut.org and register as an individual -- or an organization, if you own a business or run an organization that is going to participate.

Everyone, everywhere, should know how to protect themselves in an earthquake. Even if earthquakes are rare where you live, they may happen where you or your family travel, or perhaps where you or your children may live one day.

Review the Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety, recommendations for what to do before, during, and after earthquakes.

The San Diego County Office of Emergency Services also recommends that county residents register their cell phone number with AlertSanDiego, the county’s emergency notification system, download the SD Emergency App to their mobile device and complete a Family Disaster Plan.
